Why should I wear orthotics?
Improper foot biomechanics can possibly result in some of the following conditions:
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Ankle pain and recurrent sprain
- Arch pain
- Bunions
- Calf tightness/injury
- Hamstring tightness/injury
- Heel pain (heel spur, plantar fasciitis)
- Knee pain
- Lower back and hip pain
- Shin splints
- Orthotics may be of benefit. Check with your physician, physiotherapist or OT for a recommendation.
What does a foot annalysis entail?
Foot analysis takes various forms. Quite simply, the patient walks bear foot on an ink pad and the results are observed for various problems. In addition, the technician will watch you walk in order to identify such problems as pronation, supranation and gait problems.
How do I care for my orthotics?
Orthotics should be hand washed every two weeks in mild soap and warm water. The orthotics should be air dried. It would be a good idea to put some baby powder on them after washing.
Can I change my orthotics from shoe to shoe?
Yes. Sports orthotics can be changed to other sport shoes and work shoes. Dress shoe orthotics can be changed to other dress shoes.
What types of orthotics are available?
Orthotics are classified into 3 types: rigid (graphite), flexible (leather, foam) and semi-rigid (thermoplastics).
Do orthotics have to be ordered?
Custom made orthotics have to be ordered as each foot is different. A mould of your foot is taken and the orthotics is manufactured from this imprint.
